Confession #1: I’d been looking forward to the Ultimate Homemaking Bundle for months. Usually it, along with the Health Living Bundle offered in the fall, are my favorites of all the Ultimate Bundles. Even though the homemaking bundle usually is more faith/religion-heavy than any other bundle, and I don’t typically touch on faith/religion in this blog (though I very much respect religion and faith) – there’s usually plenty of other resources included to still make it work my while.

Plus. it’s the only bundle all year long that includes marriage resources.Which I like to write about. I had my fingers crossed for some super-awesome -and not specifically religious – marriage resources included in the bundle that I could suggest to my readers.

Confession #2: When I first read the product list for this bundle, I was somewhat disappointed. Very few marriage books/bonuses. Lots of explicitly faith-based ones, even more so than in previous years. (I almost felt like they could’ve titled this year’s bundle the The Ultimate CHRISTIAN Homemaking Bundle)No really awesome bonuses that stood out to me, whereas usually it’s the bonuses that push me over the edge and get me to buy the bundles.

So…against my better judgement, but feeling obligated to continue my tradition of being the only blog out there to actually REVIEW these bundles – I reluctantly decided to pre-purchase the bundle still.

Below is my 2017 Ultimate Homemaking Bundle review. Warning: It’s not all glowing.

Which is why I’m also including alternate options to consider if you decide this year’s homemaking bundle isn’t for you…but you still like parts of it.

However, as always – the final call is up to YOU. We all have different likes and wants. Butif you find yourself loving enough of the resources to make it worth it for you to buy the entire bundle, then go for it! You won’t get another chance for this collection to be at this price again (unless they do a one-time 2-day flash sale again in a couple months, which they sometimes do on some of the bundles). And hey, if you buy on Wed. the 26th or Thurs. the 27th, you get a free eReader upgrade. Otherwise it’s $10. In case that little incentive helps you make a decision.

A Mom’s Guide to Better Photos: A Beginning Photography Class for Moms With Any Type of Cameraby Meg Calton ($99.00) – I only skimmed through this. I appreciated that you could just view the slides instead of being forced to sit and watch entire videos if we didn’t need to (because, as a mom, who’s got time to watch a bunch of videos, lol?) It seemed like a good introduction to photography skills if you don’t have any and this course could be really helpful for you, but…maybe I’m cheap? But it didn’t seem like it was worth $100 on its’ own.
TRY THIS INSTEAD: Purchase the much cheaper The Spaghetti Shots ebook (below) on its own.

Adventures in Bible Journaling: An Extensive Beginner’s Guide to Art and Bible Journalingby Bethany Floyd ($18.97) – 57 pgs. I know fancy bible journaling is a thing, because I’ve seen it on Pinterest and whatnot. Eh, I guess I just don’t get it, or it’s not for me.
TRY THIS INSTEAD: Do a Pinterest search for “Bible journaling”

Bible Verse Coloring Through the Yearby Carisa Hinson ($7.00) – 39 pgs. I like coloring page as much as the next person, and have tried to sit down and do adult coloring books, but I don’t know who really has the time for them?? These might be good if you’re specifically trying to memorize specific verses, or if you’re looking for seasonal verses…but still, I don’t know if it’s worth $7, unless it’s EXACTLY what you need and for some reason can’t find elsewhere.
TRY THIS INSTEAD: Do a Pinterest search for “Bible verse coloring pages”

Creative Sparks: 30 Daily Prompts for Creativesby Jennie Moraitis ($10.99) – 36 pgs. First, this is non-religious and applicable to a wide audience. #appreciate. Second, while there aren’t really any new ideas in this quick guide, if you’re stuck creatively and need a jump start (and you like following daily guides), then you might dig this. It’s pretty, and easy-to-digest. I don’t know if it’s worth $11 in digital form though. Maybe if it were nicely printed in hard copy – but as an ebook? Eh, maybe only a couple bucks.

DIY Art Journal – Your Jump Start to Creativity Volume 2by Kimberlee Stokes ($12.00) – 38 pgs. Every page and all text is hand drawn. Feels very teen girl to me. Half coloring book, half art “journal”, skews spiritual, but not religious. Might be good for a teenager, but eh, not for me. And certainly not for $12.
TRY THIS INSTEAD:Wreck This Journal, $7.59

Mother’s Little Helper: Clean Up Your Photos with Photoshop Elementsby Melissa Shanhun ($30.00) – Covers helpful topics, but, I don’t know if it’s worth $30. You can find a lot fo this stuff in free youtube videos if you want to search for it.
TRY THIS INSTEAD: Purchase the much cheaper The Spaghetti Shots ebook (below) on its own.

The Garden Therapy Coloring Bookby Stephanie Rose ($4.99) – 21 pgs. Ok, I DO like this one and might actually use it in real life. However, this is so far one thing that might be worth it to me…and tbh, I don’t even know that I’d actually print the pages out and sit down and find time to peacefully color…when I could be doing so many other things with my time.

The Spaghetti Shots: How to Take Better Photos of Your Kids During Everyday Lifeby Courtney Westlake ($6.99) – 47 pgs. This one not only teaches you basic photo composition, but also teaches you how to use your fancy DSLR camera (and with easy pictures to figure out what buttons they mean!) Also, I personally prefer ebook formats over ecourse/video formats and I can scan and absorb the information better.
BUY THIS INSTEAD! If you want a good photo guide book for a good price (and don’t want to buy the whole homemaking bundle), this is the one to get.

Though I typically blog from a mostly secular perspective, I’m actually quite respectful and open to religion and faith. However, I tend to be more interested in theological and philosophical religious understandings rather than faith-living types of books. So, with that said, the faith section of the Ultimate Homemaking Bundles have never particularly interested me and I don’t review them individually. I do provide Amazon links, where available, to other user reviews though.

31 Days to Radically Reduce Your Expenses: Less Stress, More Savings by Kalyn Brooke ($7.39) – 238 pgs. I don’t necessarily think that all this needs to be structured around 31 days…but it does provide a thorough list of savings tips and tricks. Some of the information is a bit basic, so it’s probably best for those who have no idea where to start, rather than those who’ve already exhausted all efforts to cut back expenses. But still it’s decent. And I feel that the retail price they placed on it is fair.

A Zero Budget Christmas: How to Make Christmas Memorable with Little Money by Kristen Glover ($8.99) – 49pgs. This isn’t so much a “Christmas” book, as it is a “here are lots of ways you can save money on the side” book. With a sweet story at the beginning about the author not being able to afford Christmas presents for her kids. She also includes tips/encouragement to keep gifts simple, new-to-you, or handmade. As well as some lists and printables at the end to help you plan ahead for Christmas. Nothing in here seemed particularly novel or that I’d never heard before. However, if you’re struggling to find ways to stay frugal around gift-giving times, then there is helpful advice in this book. So it could be worth it for you.

Financial Goals Workbook by Krystal Sadler ($10.00) – 11pgs. NOT worth $10.
TRY THIS INSTEAD: Do a Pinterest search for “Free Financial Goals Printable”

How to Be Frugal: A Guided 10 Unit Course That Will Teach You How to Be Frugal Online, In the Store, and In Your Home by Jennifer Roskamp ($99.00) – if you are brand new to the idea of making a budget and living frugally. And/or if you are someone who prefers to have someone hold your hand and walk you through a process step-by-step AND you like following directions exactly and completing a list of activities in order…then this course might be good for you. Otherwise, you might just want to skim through the contents of the course. Or…
TRY THIS INSTEAD: Become a regular reader of the author’s blog, TheIntentionalMom.com, or MoneySavingMom.com or any of the frugal living blogs out there.

How to Coupon Effectively: How to Save $5,200 Per Year in Just 2 Hours Per Week by Lauren Greutman ($9.99) – 100pgs. If you’re new to the world of couponing, this ebook is pretty thorough and covers a lot in an easy-to-digest format. For what it covers, the price is decent too. Not sure if it’d be worth purchasing on its own when you can check out free online couponing resources instead – but if you’re already planning to buy the bundle, this could be a useful ebook.

Living Well & Spending Zero by Ruth Soukup ($12.99) – 103pgs. Whew. Just skimming over this makes me hyperventilate a bit, ha ha. Though some people do well with jumping into ‘cold-turkey’ type commitments like this – I can’t. Not without research and planning. Also, I’m not very good at sticking to a plan that someone else arranged for me. (I’m waaay too much of a think-outside-the-box type person.) 🙂 Still this kind of “no spend” month plan could be good for you. Overall, I think there’s some good tips in there to get you thinking about ways to stop spending money…and if you need the structured steps of 31 days, then it might be a good fit for you. Also, note: on Amazon right now, this is being offered for $8.75, not the $12.99 is being advertised at retail for with the ultimate bundle.

Real Life Money Plan: Designing a Money Plan to Fit Your Real Life by Jessi Fearon ($49.00) – this course is ALL videos! No worksheets or notes outline, or something to read along with the videos. Just videos. I don’t have time to watch videos, nor retain the information in them…ESPECIALLY if they are not some kind of hands-on DIY project. Sorry – this is a pet peeve of mine I guess, lol, as I retain knowledge so much better when I can skim and pause and process info on my own rather than having to sit through the tedium of videos/podcasts to get to the parts I want/need to. So basically, I’m not reviewing this course, because I don’t want to waste my time watching videos. It could be an awesome course, it might not. I don’t know. You’ll have to use your own discretion on this one.
TRY THIS INSTEAD: Any of the other financial resources included in this bundle. Or google any of the many other resources available out there.

Thrifty & Thriving: More Life for Less Money by Victoria Huizinga ($5.99) – 188pgs. The books focuses on teaching what makes a thrifty person thrifty, as a lifestyle, rather than just listing specific tips or ideas how to cut spending. I really like this perspective, as it’s one that I’ve had to adopt during our leaner times. Though I admittedly don’t live as frugally as I could as at times, I appreciate that I have the knowledge and skills to live as a thrifty person if/when I need to. I also appreciate that the listed retail price of this book, $5.99, is appropriate as well.

Cozy Minimalist Decorating Class by Myquillyn Smith ($39.00) – First, I love that this course gives you the option to download the videos, and the slide presentation, and the mp3 files all separately. The slides are mostly just all the pretty images that are shown in the video. So I guess I probably still have to either watch the videos or listen to the audio files in order to obtain all the information…sigh… Although, at least there’s SOME text on the slides, enough that you can figure out the point. I don’t think I’d *personally* pay for this course since I don’t have the patience for videos :), but I think I can still get something from it and I can see how this would be a helpful course to some.

Don’t Wait, Decorate!: An Encouraging Guide to Decorating by Chelsea Coulston ($24.00) – 96pgs. Also comes with a 15pg workbook. What I like about the workbook is that it’s a .pdf fillable form! Meaning that you can fill it out on your computer rather than having to print it and write in. Sometimes it’s the little things that make the biggest difference, ha ha. For the main book part, I found myself reading through the first couple chapters. Perhaps because for the past several months I’ve FINALLY been putting work into re-decorating my (super small) house, in my own (as space saving as possible) style. While I don’t know if I’d pay $24 for this on its own – because I already got it as part of the bundle and found myself liking it – I’ll probably come back to this at some point and finish reading the whole thing.

Yellow Prairie Academy Lesson 1: The Living Room – How to Create a Cozy, Pulled-Together Feel in Your Own Living Room. by Janna Allbritton ($25.00) – another ALL VIDEO course. Which I don’t have the time to watch right now. I wish there had been some slides, or even just typed information, to go along with the videos.
TRY THIS INSTEAD: not sure, since I didn’t watch any of the videos. Maybe do a Pinterest search for “cozy living rooms”?

Feeding Toddlers: A Pediatrician’s Guide to Happy and Healthy Mealtimes by Dr. Orlena Kerek ($9.99) – 68 pgs. I admit: My kids are not great eaters, are picky, don’t often eat their meals and just want to snack, etc. I’m sure, as a mom, that somewhere in there I failed. I mean, I’m ok with an occasional mom failure; it happens to the best of us…but I don’t like reading books (or ebooks) that remind me of it. So I went into this book with low expectations, to be honest. First strike: the author admonishes ALL attempts at “requiring” kids to eat, or try a bite, or finish their veggies before getting dessert. She takes a “give them healthy food options and they’ll grow to like and eat the healthy food” approach. Which I’ve heard. Many, many times. Except…well…this method just isn’t for my family, or our lifestyle or personalities. I’ve tried it. I’m not going to get all “mommy wars” here in this review, but let’s just say, I’m finding my own food balance that works with my kids and it does include a bit of requiring vegetable consumption before dessert…and I feel TOTALLY fine with this, lol. So basically, this book is not for me at all. It might be good for a first-time new toddler parent who is surprised that their child doesn’t want to eat healthy food.
TRY THIS INSTEAD: Do a Pinterest search for “toddler eating tips” or just talk to some veteran moms you know and ask them how they get their kids to eat…if anything, it will help you realize that you’re not alone and that none of us are perfect at feeding our kids. 🙂

Table Talk: Family Dinner Conversation Starters by Sarah Avila ($3.99) – 51pgs. Kind of cute cards. You do have to print them onto cardstock and cut them up if you plan to use them though. Our family sadly hardly ever gets to eat together as a family, so I can’t imagine us using these, but I could see how some families would. Most of the questions are fairly generic, but there’s a few interesting ones. Note that there are some cards that ask about favorite Bible stories, favorite verses, what you think heaven will be like, etc.

The Well Ordered Kitchen Basic Version by Caroline Allen ($6.99) – 13pgs. But only 9 actual pages of printables. Also contains a whole page ad to upgrade to the premium version on their website. Honestly, I was not impressed with this. It reminds of something that bloggers usually give away for free when you sign up for their blog newsletter.
TRY THIS INSTEAD: Do a Pinterest search for “meal planning printables. Or see the What’s 4 Dinner ecourse offered below.

What’s 4 Dinner Challenge Meal Planning eCourse by Erin Odom ($47.00) – the course is set up very nicely. It also includes some sort of 3-week live challenge and access to a private facebook group…if that’s you’re thing. But it ALSO offers (which is more MY thing) a self-paced version. I like that they have things broken down into easy chunks, that there’s still lots of info even if you prefer not to watch videos and that they include a printable pack. If meal planning is a serious need of yours, this course alone could push you over the edge to buy the bundle.

I wanted there to be more than there is in this marriage section, and then, a few more resources for the tough times of marriage rather than the cute stuff. 52 Date Cards by The Dating Divas ($6.97) – 48pgs. Look, I really like The Dating Divas. Waaay back before I had a blog, The Dating Divas was one of the first marriage-friendly resources I ever found online and one of the first blogs I ever followed on Pinterest. I want to support them and like their commitment to continuing to date your spouse. However, these date cards are probably only really best for a really new relationship, maybe dating or young newlyweds. If you’ve been married any length of time, you’re probably going to find several of these ideas to be rather trite.
TRY THIS INSTEAD: A date night subscription box, perhaps? 🙂 I’ve got a WHOLE LIST of them (w/reviews & promo codes) right here for you to check out!! Oh, and not to mention the GIVEAWAY I’m also hosting right now for a 6-month subscription to Datebox…just sayin’. (Hey, nothing wrong w/a little shameless plug of my own here and there… 🙂 )

Boost Your Libido Course by Sheila Gregoire ($39.00) – The course comes with a 121pg. ebook too, which is nice. Aaand…she provides a written synopsis of each lesson for those – like me – who prefer to read rather than watch videos! Yay! Sheila is a Christian marriage blogger, so she blogs heavily from a biblical perspective, however I REALLY appreciate that she is willing to tackle some of the more difficult marriage struggles; she’s even previously featured one of my posts about a really hard time in mine and KP’s marriage. Even though I might not write about marriage from the exact same perspective as her, I definitely appreciate what she contributes to the conversation on marriage. While this ecourse might not be a best fit for all UHB customers (it’s written specifically to CHRISTIAN women struggling with libido issues), I do think that this eCouse might be very valuable to some, so if this fits you, it’d be worth the bundle purchase price alone.

Great Dates with Your Mate: Romantic Conversation Startersby Laurie Kehler ($5.99) – 48pgs. I appreciate that this this book is divided into sections: Early Marriage, Married w/Children, and Mature Marriage, and acknowledges that marriage relationships change significantly over time. I also appreciate that the author recognizes that individual couples might use the book differently, ask questions in a different order, and/or skip over questions that don’t fit them. I thought that this was a really nice little book, with lots of lovely pictures of couples through different life stages…however, I kind of wish that I had a printed version to keep on my bedside table rather than just an ebook! Still, the questions in this book felt original to me and I see myself going through some of these at some point and asking KP about them. I didn’t expect to like this little ebook, but I really did. Non-religious.

Making Big Life Changes Together: Pursuing Your Dreams as a Couple by Haley Stewart ($3.99) – I’ve haphazardly followed Haley’s blog over the years and remember when she announced that she was making this big move with her husband to live on a farm in Texas. What I like about this book is that the author talks about how her and her husband decided to follow a dream together. Considering *I* blog about the dream-chasing world of Hollywood, I can relate to this endeavor! However, reading through the book kind of made me wish she’d have interviewed a couple like KP and I – most of the couples in the book seemed to choose to give up a hectic career life for a more traditionally based family life. But what if it’s your family’s dream to somehow continue juggling both? Ha, I suppose maybe I just need to blog about family life in L.A. and the entertainment industry. I’ve kind of slacked about discussing that part of our lives here in the blog recently…I really should dive into some of that topic more occasionally. Also note: While not a religious book, most, if not all, the women quoted in the book are Catholic and there are occasional mentions about family prayer, God, or commitment to getting a Catholic education.

Rekindling Romance eKit: 7 Ideas to Help Reignite the Spark by Jami Balmet ($11.95) – 44pgs. Hmm. So this is basically a bunch of printables to create 7 date nights. It feels almost EXACTLY what the website The Dating Divas is all about. I hate to sound like a naysayer, but since I’ve recently become exposed to so many amazing, outside-the-box (and already pre-planned) date night ideas through the date night subscription boxes I review…and because I’m already very familiar with The Dating Divas website – this does not feel very interesting or exciting to me at all.

**BOLDED PURPLE TITLES are links to the individual bonus companies in case you’d like to check them out first**

Cultivate What Matters$15 store credit(international shipping available) – this online shop has lots of pretty planners, journals, postcards and stuff. I mean, everything looks modern and fresh and lovely and all that…it’s just not really my style, tbh. I’m sure you might love it all though.
TRY THIS INSTEAD: If you’re looking for a planner, and you want something no-frills – and FREE – might I suggest The Planner For Those Who Do Too Much?? Yes, another shameless plug for my own stuff….I know… 🙂

Kiwi CrateFree 1 month subscription, $20 value($15 off $50 shop purchase for existing customers, shipping available to U.S. & Canada) – I love Kiwi Crate. I mean, how could you not? They’ve been around for years, almost every mom blogger has written about them at one point, and you probably know several people already who subscribe. The only thing that was kind of a bummer about this bonus is that the existing customer bonus is $15 off $50 in their shop! Who buys $50 worth of stuff from their online shop? Don’t most people do the subscription? Either way, I was disappointed at first…until I realized that I could just sign up my just-turned-3 son under my husband’s name and ta da, new subscription. So that’s what I did. 🙂 You do have to pay shipping, and you do have to put in a credit card for automatic billing, but if you don’t already get Kiwi Crate for your kid(s), and are willing to cancel after getting your free box – this is a bonus you should take advantage of.

MightyFix shipment from Mighty NestFree 1 month MightyFix shipment, $17 value($15 store credit toward next add-on order for existing MightyFix subscribers, international shipping available) – since I’m all about trying to make better changes in my life, this looked like kind of a cool idea. However, I JUST recently bought wool dryer balls for the first time so I’m kind of like, man – I should’ve just waited a couple weeks and I could’ve got some for free through the homemaking bundle! Lol. Either way, I signed up for this and got some more dryer balls. I also added on a lemon reamer for our lemon tree in the backyard. I LOVE that the shipping on this is only $1.99. And then free for a regular subscription. I also like that they give back to schools. Overall, I kind of like the idea of MightyFix, enough so that if I accidently forgot to cancel and my trial subscription auto-renewed….I might not be too upset. So this bonus is a win for me.

Ultimate Homemaking Bundle

Ultimate Homemaking Bundle Reviews

Detox Project BoxOne project box, $25 value(shipping available to U.S. & Canada)this kind of sounds fun? But a) I don’t want to pay $9 for shipping to be given a project. Which is totally not like me usually, ha ha, normally I love DIY projects (even ones I fail at 🙂 ) and b) their website looks totally brand new and incomplete and I’m a bit hesitant to give them any of my information yet…I may just wait another month or two and let other people redeem their bundle bonuses and I haven’t signed up for this yet, but I still might.
TRY THIS INSTEAD: Maybe something similar like Grow and Make? They also have some cool little DIY project kits.

BookrooFree 1 month subscription, $18 value(box of past favorites for existing customers, international shipping available) – I love this idea and will probably sign up, however I’m a little hesitant that the only way to cancel is to email them. Because then they always email back asking if there’s anything they can do better, and then I always feel bad about having just tried the free month. Plus I’m already a consultant for Usborne books – and I do love me some Usborne books. I’m sure my kids would LOVE getting books in the mail each month, but I don’t know if this is something I’d keep up.

OrglamixFree Lip Balm Kit(international shipping available) – Last year, they offered a store credit to use toward any purpose. I preferred that, tbh. I already have a PLETHORA of lip balms from so many different natural companies…I really don’t need more. I do like the idea that this is a kit, so you can DIY a couple lip balms on your own, but still…it’s not worth the shipping cost to me. I personally would’ve been interested to try some of the organic makeup on my breakout-prone skin and may have actually purchased some makeup otherwise. I would’ve totally bought one of these Make Up Starter Kits if this bonus applied to that. Bummer.

Strawesome$15 store credit(international shipping available) – I love glass straws. I like buying from small businesses too. If you’re already planning to buy this bundle, I do think this bonus is worth taking advantage of. Stawesome (from a bundle a couple years back) was my first encounter with glass straws and I’ve since fallen in love with them. While you can find glass straws on Amazon for a bit cheaper (I admit that these are the ones I’ve bought), one thing that’s great about Strawesome is that they have a lifetime replacement policy! Call me weird, whatever 🙂 but I now use the short 6” glass straws DAILY with my coffee in an attempt to stop staining my teeth as badly. Before I was pregnant, KP and I would make cocktails in our fancy Moscow mule mugs and use our straws too. I have a couple larger smoothie sized straws too. I’ve become kind of obsessed with them… Anyway, over time, a couple of the straws have been dropped or smashed or otherwise broken – maybe I really should’ve bought all my glass straws from Strawesome instead!

2017 Hope Ink CalendarDigital download not available anywhere else but in this bundle, $20 value(international shipping available) – these art prints are kind of cool, and they’ve been a bonus for the past several bundles, so I’ve checked them out several times…but I never end up redeeming this bonus. I don’t have a nice enough color printer to print them, and realistically, they never quite go with any of the empty spaces in our super tiny house. So, eh, this bonus might be for you and you might totally dig it…but it just hasn’t been something worth it for me.

HomeBinderHomeowner Lifetime Membership, $120 value(digital) – KP and I are renters (housing prices here are insane), so I don’t really know the value of this bonus. Check it out for yourself – maybe it’s a good deal?

MollyGreen.comFree 1 year annual membership, $29 value(digital) – hey, they don’t make you put in credit card info to sign up; I LOVE that! Bonus points right there for them. 🙂 MollyGreen.com was offered as a bonus last year too, though I didn’t quite get what they were all about and didn’t sign up. To be honest, I still don’t totally understand what this site is, but hey, it’s free to sign up with the homemaking bundle, so why not? and worth checking out. When you first visit MollyGreen.com, it’s difficult to understand what a membership entails, but once you register as a member, you have access to this whole other section of the site. In the membership section, there are quite a few free ebooks to download (in essence, MollyGreen.com feels like its’ own “ultimate bundle” because you have access to a bunch of ebooks…though most of them are produced specifically by MollyGreen; they aren’t ebooks you could also find on Amazon) I’ve looked through most of the member materials and eh, I don’t think they are really geared toward me. It’s probably a better fit for those who live in more rural communities, or those who don’t already spend hours on Pinterest searching for free material when a need arises, lol. They focus on topics that I kind of dig: HOMEsteading (I garden!), HOMEschooling (hey, I homeschool too!), HOMEkeeping (I’m a mom and wife), and HOMEindustry (I’ve worked from home for years) – but not in a manner that fits with my more urban/big-city-suburban lifestyle. If that makes sense. Either way, check out MollyGreen.com. It may be for you. But just not me.
TRY THIS INSTEAD: If you’re not planning to buy the Ultimate Homemaking Bundle, but still interested in MollyGreen.com, you can join for a month ($3.95/mo) to see what you think.
